Wow! Saved me a couple hundred at least, I guess. It took me a couple hours to make the repair, but it seems to be working great now. Worst case, it fails again and I'm back where I started. Thanks so much for posting this!

I would just like to say thank you to Maximus for making this post. I just did this repair today and it worked well. I also used a Dremmel to cut off the teeth. I ended up using 3/32 by 1.5 inch cotter pins and that worked fairly well. My window goes up and down a little slower now, most likely because I neglected to lubricate it. However, since it is the passenger front window it does not get used much so I'm not too worried about it. Thanks again for making this $500 saving post!

Thanks for the idea Maximus, I stumbled across this post tonight when my Wifes passenger window dropped today on her 99 Cherokee.

I used your technique and fixed it right up better than new, the cotter pins fit right in the grooves perfectly.

I even had a spare door in the basement from a previous accident, but I felt this was a better fix that putting another plastic part on there that would eventually wear out again.

Great description, thanks!

Awesome fix. A couple hours and 20 cents later the window is repaired better than new. Slick idea. Cotter pins. So simple it's genius. Thank a ton.

My 99 Grand Cherokee windows are pulley driven instead of worm screw, but the same deal, seems to break about once a year. I've replaced it once, and it broke again. It's $85 us for the part, but if it breaks again, well it's just annoying. Any repair suggestions?

you are right. Some drivers go to an extend of spending money by getting someone else to fix their vehicles. The good news is that you can do most repairs yourself. Thank you for sharing.
